Supporting heart & lung transplant journeys across Australia
Life after transplant deserves community, clarity, and care.
The Australian Heart and Lung Transplant Association (AHLTA) supports recipients, families, and carers through every stage of the transplant journey.
We’re a member-led organisation built on lived experience. We’re here to connect, advocate, and provide practical help when it matters most.

Our story began with Victor Chang
AHLTA was founded over 35 years ago through the vision of Dr Victor Chang, whose groundbreaking work in heart transplantation inspired a community of patients and families to come together in support of one another.
What started as a small network of transplant recipients has grown into a national organisation dedicated to care, connection and advocacy for people living with new hearts and lungs.
Dr Chang’s legacy of compassion, innovation and teamwork continues to guide everything we do.
